“Brazil, country of the future” is almost an axiom, an automatic statement, something like “Paris, the city of light” or “New York, the big apple”; derivations, perhaps, of the distinctions with which aristocrats were nicknamed: “Mary, the mad”, “Ivan, the terrible”, “Philip, the beautiful”. On this occasion, Carla Zaccagnini proposes an investigation into the territory, natural resources and people of Brazil, based on a series of publications such as Stefan Zweig’s work of the same name, which, from the beginning of the 20th century, illustrate ideas of the future and progress that resonate in our present.

“Brasil continues to be the country of the future, its name followed by that phrase. Something between a promise and a condemnation. Because the future is a time that cannot be reached, that is always beyond the curve. The future is to time what the horizon line is to space. The earth turns and the horizon remains the horizon”.
